Newbery Award-winning author Lois Lowry adapts her own book for the stage, and explores the depth of dreams in this beautiful, lyrical play. Gossamer is the story of Dream-givers, mystical creatures who collect memories from meaningful belongings and then weave them together to create beautiful dreams.

The story follows a young boy and his mother, both escaping from an abusive past, and an older woman who serves as the boy’s foster mother. Haunted by nightmares, the boy is strengthened and protected by his Dream giver, Littlest One. Gossamer is a sensitive and compelling play for thoughtful youth and their families.
Gossamer addresses issues of child abuse and involvement in the foster care system. Themes addressed in the production align with United Way's priorities in education and health, through helping children and youth achieve their potential, and ensuring that individuals are safe from domestic and family violence. The Portland-Vancouver region has seen dramatic increases in child abuse trends and the breakdown the children’s foster care system. By sponsoring the play, United Way of the Columbia-Willamette seeks to increase public awareness of foster care, domestic violence and child abuse.
Gossamer is adapted for the stage by Lois Lowry. Co-commissioned by Oregon Children’s Theatre & First Stage Children’s Theater, Milwaukee, WI. Directed by Stan Foote
