How I LIVE UNITED
Nanci Hopkins, with son Chasse
|
When people fall on very hard times, it’s not always their fault. I’ve been giving to United Way since I started working as a teenager. Here at UPS, where I’ve worked for more than 20 years, I’ve been part of the United Way campaign since the beginning. In short, I’ve always been a hard-working and selfsufficient woman.
Then tragedy struck our family. My son Chasse suffered a severe brain injury when he was 18 months old. He spent three weeks in intensive care. No one thought he was going to make it. Our lives completely changed at that point. It was very hard trying to keep a full-time job, while also taking my son to one doctor’s appointment after another, to make sure he gets the help he needs. We were very lucky to work with caring and generous people, including programs that receive funding from United Way.
I LIVE UNITED by helping my co-workers and my community understand the respect that I have for United Way’s work. They’ve been there for my family when we needed help the most. I’m forever grateful.
