Sean Edwards Takes the Reins of Young Leaders Society
![]() |
Sean Edwards first discovered United Way’s Young Leaders Society in February 2008 and attended his first YLS event shortly after. He felt an immediate connection with the group and has since served as a general member, chair of the membership committee, and vice-chair of the YLS Committee. He is eager to take the reins of leading the group of up-and-coming business and civic leaders who are committed to the work and mission of United Way in the community.
“United Way touches so many organizations, so it provides the groundwork for developing relationships with people throughout the community. Working with United Way also provides a better understanding of the needs of the region today and into the future,” says Sean, a corporate banker with Bank of the West’s National Banking Division.
Sean is most proud of the Young Leaders Society’s membership growth, which started out as mostly friends-of-friends, but has since expanded to include members from a wide range of occupations and backgrounds. Today, YLS is made up of some 100 socially-minded leaders who are generating awareness about United Way’s mission and results in our community.
As Chair of the YLS Committee, Sean looks forward to growing a diverse YLS membership base. Working closely with other board members, he is excited about future events, which he sees as a great way to deepen members’ understanding of how United Way impacts our community. He appreciates that YLS provides opportunities for members to be as involved as they want to be, whether that means donating time, money, or both.
