Roadmap to Stronger Achievement

Black Parent Initiative Portland

United Way of the Columbia-Willamette is funding The Black Education Coalition, a group that is focusing the conversation around the achievement gap among white and Black students in Portland Public Schools.

The Black Parent Initiative commissioned the report, “A Deeper Look at the Black-White Achievement Gap in Multnomah County” with a grant from the Chalkboard Project. The report provides a data-driven look at the condition of Portland’s Black students in six Multnomah County school districts:  Centennial, David Douglas, Gresham-Barlow, Parkrose, Portland and Reynolds.

Convened by the Black Parent Initiative and Portland Schools Foundation, The Black Education Coalition will develop multiple strategies to address the gap, investigate best practices locally and nationally and organize the community to action.  Pictured are community leaders, staff members of the Black Parent Initiative and United Way execs at the launch of the report.
