2008 Intel Oregon United Way Campaign Sets Record

PORTLAND, OR, December 1, 2008 – In the midst of very tough times for many Oregonians, Intel Oregon employees and retirees stepped up in donations to United Way of the Columbia-Willamette in 2008.  Not only that, but they set a giving record.

intel community

Donations from Intel Oregon’s employees and retirees in the just completed Intel Community Giving Campaign totaled over $2.9 million. The Intel Foundation will match the employee and retiree contributions, bringing the total Intel contribution in Oregon to almost $6 million.  This is a 12% increase over last year's campaign.

“During this economic downtown, there are so many people turning to charity for help,” said Krista Vasquez, Intel employee and donor. “With a lot of families struggling and having a hard time just providing the basics, I doubled my giving to the United Way this year. With Intel’s matching grant, I know my contribution will make a difference in someone’s life.”

Intel employees and retirees are given the option of contributing directly to United Way, and having it allocate their contributions, or designating another specific non-profit to be the recipient of their donation. Donations can be designated for any 501c3 nonprofit organization of special interest and 100% of the donation will go to that charity.  The Intel Foundation then matches all Intel donations 1:1 (up to $10,000) with a contribution to the local Community Impact Fund at United Way. This doubles the donation and community support.

Intel Corporation is also a proud contributor to the Cornerstone Program.  Through the Cornerstone Program, corporate gifts are designated to help underwrite operating costs.  Because of this support, 100% of contributions received will be invested in programs to help people in need.

All of Intel’s donations will fund essential programs to help thousands of people in the Portland/Vancouver area struggling to adapt to a difficult economy. Each year United Way of Columbia-Willamette partners with Intel Oregon to support Intel’s charitable giving efforts.

“Intel employees demonstrate what it means to LIVE UNITED through their generous giving and volunteerism.  Intel is a key partner in our ongoing commitment to the community and truly a corporate leader in this year’s United Way campaign,” said President and CEO Marc Levy of United Way of the Columbia-Willamette.

Intel employees have been reliable United Way supporters for years, making Intel United Way’s top donor in the region. Donor gifts support programs that help young children learn and stay in school, help senior citizens and the physically challenged live safe and productive lives, help end the cycle of homelessness – examples of dozens of programs funded by United Way donations.
