Helping people to live independently and with dignity
Poverty means many things: not having enough to eat, struggling to find and keep adequate housing, working a job that doesn't pay enough to make ends meet, being socially isolated, and not being able to connect to help and support when you need it.
An increasing number of people in our community can't pay their rent, put food on the table, or have what they need to survive - let alone live with dignity. The answer is a community where people take care of each other in times of need.
United Way provides:
- Safe, affordable housing for low-income and homeless individuals and families
- Job training and connections to employers to increase financial opportunity
- Resources for micro-enterprise development and business and money management skills
- Transportation, job development and workplace supports that enhance community participation of seniors and people with disabilities
- Services that ensure the health and safety of older seniors in their own homes
