Everyone who donates at any level and supports United Way is helping to free the future for kids in our region.
That makes each of you a champion in our book.
Have you been giving to United Way—any United Way—for 10 years or more? Let us know! We want to thank you and show our appreciation for your consistent support. Your generosity has helped thousands of families in our region. In addition, you’ll receive invitations to special Loyal Contributor events and activities where you can meet other people like you who have been giving back to our community.
Leadership Givers are United Way of the Columbia-Willamette supporters who exemplify commitment and caring with annual investment of $1,000 or more. If you're a Leadership Giver, you’re setting an example for your neighbors. That’s why we want to recognize you for your generosity.
Reaching the $1,000 level of giving may be easier than you think. It takes just $20 a week to join the Leadership Circle if you use payroll deduction. Many companies will match your donation. Spouses or domestic partners may also combine their gift to be recognized at higher Leadership Circle levels.
United Way of the Columbia-Willamette’s Tocqueville Society is a group of elite donors who are at the forefront of creating positive change and tackling our community’s toughest issues. Membership is open to individuals and couples who contribute $10,000 or more annually.
The national Tocqueville Society was created by United Way of America in 1984, designed to deepen individuals’ understanding of, commitment to, and support of the work of United Way. Four years later, in 1988, United Way of the Columbia-Willamette founded our local Tocqueville Society.

You can realize enhanced tax savings by making your gift to United Way through appreciated securities. Stocks, bonds and mutual funds can also be donated to charity and provide tax savings.
When donating securities, it is important to keep in mind whether they have increased or decreased in value over time.
If the value of the securities has increased, consider donating them directly to the organization rather than selling them and donating the cash. Securities that you have owned for more than a year can be tax deductible at their full fair market value, not at the original cost. In addition, this also allows you to bypass capital gains taxes that you would owe if you sold the securities. Donations of securities are deductible in amounts up to 30 percent of Adjusted Gross Income (AGI).
However, if the value of your securities has decreased over time, you may want to sell them and then donate all or part of the proceeds. You will receive the tax deduction for the amount of the charitable gift as well as creating a loss that you may also be able to claim.
If your securities are held at a brokerage firm, contact your broker in writing and request a transfer of securities to the United Way account. United Way has accounts at most of the brokerage houses in our area.
