At United Way, we are committed to working with community partners to reduce childhood poverty and invest in our local kids in the Portland metro area.
We do this through several grantmaking streams including:
Community event sponsorships
The majority of our investments focus on collaborative efforts to make schools, families and communities stronger for kids in our region. These grant opportunities often provide ongoing capacity building and backbone support for our partner organizations. Current strategic partnerships include our Early Learning Multnomah, Early Learning Washington County and Successful Families 2020 initiatives.
United Way recognizes that there are many other organizations in the community supporting kids and families in our region and we strive to invest in these services. We offer responsive grants through our Catalyst Fund. These one-time investments – up to $5,000 – are made through an open application process. In preparation for the 2020 Census, we're requesting proposals for a Statewide Census Coordinator to develop a plan to engage nonprofits, philanthropy and the public and private sector to develop a statewide Census engagement plan to create an equitable and inclusive Census that incorporates culturally-specific communities.
